Hey yo familia!
First off, Here are my New years photos! These were taken after we had just woken up to celebrate the New Year, hence the first picture. I got a video of all the fireworks, so they are a little long. I´ll have to show you when I get home. It should be about that time of year anyway. So what a good time to show you! ;)
Know how you can tell it´s summer time in Argentina? There are so many mango trees that half of the mangoes are on the ground. The grapefruit are just about ripe. Seeded grapes are hanging down from the trellis, and the ant covered pomegranates are just starting to grow. Hermana Parker and I are re animada! We are hoping they are a lot cheaper here than they are in the states. We plan to eat a lot.
I´m trying to think of what happened this week. I left my old planner at the apartment, so I don´t have the information right in front of me. We have transfers again this week. I´ve been here two transfers now. That is how long I was in Formosa, so I´m a little worried. But Herman Parker thinks we will be together at least one more transfer. I´m hoping so - I don´t want to switch companions and start in a new area again, I have this one down pretty well. We are pretty sure our district leader Elder Mellor from Washington (that information is for mom ;D ) is going to be transferred. He has been on his mission one more transfer then I have. And he has been in this area his whole mission (five transfers), so he is kind of ready. But, you never know.
Our investigators are going well. I don´t know if I told you about Martin, but he has come to church twice in a row. He´s 33, and Catholic. He got baptised when he was 16 in the Catholic church. It's all his decision. He is having a bit of a hard time with this message cause he felt that that was the right decision also. We are really rooting for him. He still hasn´t prayed yet, which isn´t helping his testimony much. And we have been teaching him for about 3-4 weeks now. But we think he is starting to get why we are there, and the awesomeness of this message.
Then there is Giermo Maties. He is somewhere in his 20´s and is kind of an alcoholic. But Man!, this guy asks all of the right questions. He´s awesome. We were teaching him for the first time this week about the Restoration, and right after, we taught about dispensations and the Gospel of Jesus Christ and apostasy. He was telling us about all the churches he´s gone too and investigated, and He just blurted out, "What Church is the true Church!?" And we were a little stunned, because we were just about to talk about the Restoration, so we were like, "Good Question." with a big smile on our face. "You know, in the year 1820, there was a young man named Joseph Smith who had the same question." He was super interested. He said he would pray to ask. The problem is, he´s drinks a lot. And it´s a little hard for the spirit to testify to someone who is drunk. He also didn´t come to Church yesterday when he said he would. We are going to pass by his house soon, see what happened. But we have a good feeling about him. He also has a baptismal fetcha (date) for the 4th of February.
The four girls who have a baptism date, weren´t at the appointment we set up. We need to go contact them again. Vamos a ver.
As for my Spanish skills.... Still having a huge struggle with that. I thought was doing better and understanding. But I was chastised the other day by one of our investigators about how she couldn´t understand me and how I need to learn and work harder... It wasn´t a confidence builder. But I have trust and patience in the Lord. So if I do my part, he will do his. It just takes patience to learn a whole new language. But it´s almost been 6 months since I´ve been in the country. So... We´ll see.
If you haven´t heard. Ammon is a Spanish Teacher in the MTC! How cool is that? He´s super excited about it. He´s also crazy for taking 20 credits while he´s working there. lol :) Congratulate him! :)
This morning I had the awesome opportunity to french braid the hair of a lady in the Elders' Ward who was getting married. Apparently it isn´t all that well known here how to do a french braid. ¨She also had super SUPER thick hair. So it was hard, but it only took me like, less then 10 minutes. She was super impressed, cause she was a hair stylist, and impressed at my quickness. She thought I had been doing a french braid since I was young. I told her only a year. She then told me I should become a hair dresser. Lol! And this, all because I can do a french braid. Weird. :)
Creo que nada más. I love you all so much. I´m grateful for the support, and the prayers I receive everyday. Be safe. Be Smart. Trust in the Lord.
Your Argintine Hermana,
Hermana Erin Kaye Griffeth
